National Diploma in Aeronautical Engineering (Maintenance Planning) - Level 5

This qualification is designed for people who carry out the maintenance planning function for organisations within the aviation industry.

The content recognises the following knowledge and skills in keeping with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulatory requirements for this function
• Producing long-term maintenance forecast plans for an aircraft fleet and major aircraft components.
• Monitor and control an aircraft maintenance activity.
• Planning aircraft maintenance activities using project management techniques.
• Defining and documenting the scope and work content of a planned aircraft maintenance activity.

Candidates can progress through the National Certificate in Aircraft Servicing [Ref: 0171], National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (Related Technology) [Ref: 0381], National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering
(Support) with strands [Ref: 0191], National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering [Ref: 0192], and the National Diploma in Aeronautical Maintenance Certification with strands [Ref: 1133] to reach this qualification.

Career progression beyond these specialist maintenance roles is most likely to be in management, for which a range of management qualifications and/or training opportunities is available depending on the needs and aspirations of the individual.

The National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering (MaintenanceControl) [Ref: 1132] cannot be used as a career pathway to reach this qualification, as this is a stand-alone qualification designed for any person
within general aviation, employed in the administration and management of maintenance control for an aviation engineering organisation, and not the completion of maintenance work on an aircraft.

Special Notes
To be employed in the area of maintenance planning in New Zealand, a candidate will need to meet the fit and proper person requirements outlined in Section 10 of the Civil Aviation Act 1990. Candidates are required to have achieved the National Certificate in Aeronautical Engineering at Level 4 [Ref: 0192], or demonstrate equivalent knowledge and skills, prior to commencing this qualification.
