The qualification has been designed to recognise the skills and knowledge required in the workplace, and may also be completed by people currently employed in the industry who are seeking an appropriate qualification.
The Compulsory focuses on the conventions and incentives industry and ensures people awarded with this qualification are able to demonstrate knowledge of: the operational process, sponsorship for a conventions and incentives industry project, the structures and functions of the industry, and environmental sustainability in the industry. Additionally people will be able to develop a marketing plan, brief clients on legislation and taxation matters, investigate venue arrangements, and produce a budget.
The Elective allows those in pre-employment training to select an assortment of standards that will help them enter the conventions and incentives industry, whilst people training on the job can select standards relevant to their particular work role. These standards cover communication, customer service, teamwork, legal rights and responsibilities in a tourism workplace, the use of event management software, advanced word processing, and sales knowledge and skills.
On completion of this National Certificate training might continue, once employment is gained in the industry, towards the National Diploma in Tourism Conventions and Incentives (Level 5) with strands in Conference Organisation, Convention Bureaux, Incentives Planning, and Venue Sales and Operations [Ref: 0724].
