National Certificate in Hospitality (Foundation Skills) - Level 1
This qualification is for people who are studying in a secondary school or early tertiary environment. It is awarded to candidates who have demonstrated that they have the foundation skills and knowledge necessary to enter the hospitality industry.

This qualification is for people who are studying in a secondary school or early tertiary environment. It is awarded to candidates who have demonstrated that they have the foundation skills and knowledge necessary to enter the hospitality industry including: preparation for service, serving food to customers, basic beverage service, basic cookery methods, cleaning methods and processes, customer care techniques, telephone techniques, and complaint handling principles.
The holder will also have demonstrated knowledge of one or more hospitality industry areas, for example hospitality departments, commercial food sources and costs, glassware, cutlery, crockery, and accommodation types and costs.
This qualification could lead on to the National Certificate in Hospitality (Entry Skills) [Ref: 1257]; the National Certificate in Hospitality (Accommodation Services) (Level 2) with an optional strand in Motel Housekeeping [Ref: 0551]; the National Certificate in Hospitality (Porter Services) (Level 2) [Ref: 0558]; the National Certificate in Hospitality (Food and Beverage Service) (Level 2) with strands in Counter Food Service, Takeaway Food Service, Table Food Service, Buffet Food Service, and Beverage Service [Ref: 0555]; and the National Certificate in Hospitality (Basic Cookery) (Level 3) [Ref: 0553].
