The content recognises the following knowledge and skills in keeping with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) regulatory requirements for this role.
• CAA rules relating to the maintenance control and certification of aircraft
• Maintenance control systems for an aircraft fleet
• The role of personnel in aircraft maintenance
• The role of and requirements for aircraft maintenance programmes
• Minimum equipment requirements for aircraft operation
• Requirements for hiring and cross leasing aircraft
This qualification is designed as a stand-alone qualification because it relates to the administration and management of maintenance control for an aviation engineering organisation, not the completion of maintenance work on an aircraft. It can be completed by any person who is employed within general aviation, and who has a sound understanding of aeronautical systems and regulations. While this qualification does not specifically lead from, or to, other qualifications, it may be of interest to employees who have completed, or who are intending to work towards, national certificates or national diplomas in the subfields of Aeronautical Engineering or Business Administration, depending on their previous knowledge and skills and the direction of their intended career pathway.
Special Notes
To be employed in the area of maintenance control in New Zealand, a candidate will also need to meet the fit and proper person requirements outlined in Section 10 of the Civil Aviation Act 1990.
