Air Hawkes Bay (AHB) is one of the five flight schools appointed by Air New Zealand Aviation Institute as a Flight Training Organisation (FTO) partner. This exclusive affiliation provides AHB to offer training specific to airline operations. Student’s career aspirations with Air NZ will be enhanced as they would of have conformed to the entry selection criteria and trained under airline approved training standards.

AHB was the first NZ Training Provider to be accredited with CAA Part 141 and also has an Air Transport Operations that is conducted under CAA Part 135 certification. The organisation has New Zealand Qualification Authority approval and is also a Signatory to the Code or Practice for International Students. AHB has fifteen experienced instructors to operate the aircraft fleet that includes Piper Tomahawks and Cherokees, Cessna 172s (glass cockpit), and Twin Engine Piper Senecas. These aircraft are supported with CAA approved simulators.
AHB major courses are the three strands incorporated within the New Zealand Diploma in Aviation i.e. Airline, Instructor and General Aviation. AHB also delivers other modular training programs including, Private Pilot Licence, Commercial Pilot Licence, Instrument rating, Instructor Ratings, Instructor Technique Course, Airline Crew Resource Management, Airline Transport Pilot Licence (Theory only), Basic Gas Turbine, and GPS courses.
AHB runs Star and Gateway programmes with local High Schools. This gives Year 12 and 13 High School students an introduction to aviation and great opportunity to be rewarded with unit standard courses and at the same time experience aviation as a possible career option.
