What made you want to work in a casino? 
When I was looking for a change in job I saw SKYCITY advertising for trainee Table Games Dealers. Without any knowledge of Casino work I applied for the position and as successful after written test and interviews.

I did some Table Games training and then started work in the Casino. I started enjoyed my work from day one. It’s fun working with customers on the Tables and I enjoy working with such a diverse workforce. More than 70 nationalities are represented at SKYCITY.

How long have you been at SKYCITY?
I’ve been at SKYCITY for five years. Before that I worked at Wendys restaurant.

Can you tell us about the type of training you are involved in?
SKYCITY provides world class training for all Table Games procedures and irregularities. I have also trained in Great Customer Service training and Host Responsibility. Everyone here has to successfully complete this training before starting work with customers.

What is the best part of working in casinos?
Directly interacting with different types of customers and working with diverse staff.

What has been the biggest challenge in your career so far?
My biggest challenge was to supervise the Table Games. I achieved it.

Where do you see your future in the industry?
I want to develop my career in SKYCITY and move to higher management levels as far as I can.

What would you say to young people thinking about getting involved in casino work?
Casino work is a good place to develop career. As it is a front line job, you work directly with customers and a diverse range of fellow workers. A Casino job is an entertaining job - people are enjoying themselves when they are here. There are plenty of career opportunities and chances to learn, grow and advance. It’s a career full of rewards, challenges, team work and fun. You can gain NZQA qualifications in many areas of the business to help you progress.
